Welcome to SCDPlayer

SCDPlayer is a special music player geared towards the needs of teachers of Scottish country dancing (SCD). It is optimised to run on Netbook-class computers such as the Asus Eee PC 701, but will work (possibly with some tweaking) on any Linux machine.

SCDPlayer uses ‚ÄčAlsaPlayer for actual playback (we try not to re-invent the wheel more often than is necessary).

Main Features

Track selection

  • Track selection uses additional info pertaining to SCD, such as dance type, number of bars per turn, number of turns, tunes, pace etc. to facilitate selection of recordings
  • Track display sorted according to criteria such as recording name, dance type/turns/bars/two chords or not, artist, album, tunes
  • Track filtering according to various criteria such as recording name, artist, lead tune, tune anywhere in the set

  • Special playback screen featuring large time display and progress bar with turn indication
  • Easy start/stop/pause/restart with rewind/forward in 2-second increments
  • Speed control in increments of 1% (from 100%) with quick reset
  • Precount mode starts the music after a delay so the teacher can assume their place in the set with appropriate dignity
  • Mark database to store and access particular points within recordings (under construction)
  • Playback can be controlled from Nintendo Wii remote controller

Playlist construction

  • Convenient construction of playlists from the track selection or playback screens
  • Playlists can be saved to or loaded from secondary storage (disk/flash)
  • Recordings from a playlist can be copied to designated secondary storage (to create custom CDs for functions, or to support dedicated MP3 players)
